ACADEMICS: The Department is established to equip students to cope up with challenges in the era of globalization and also focus on nurturing their co-curricular activities, the department is dedicated to the excellence in performance and of quality educated committed to provide quality educational opportunities and services that meet the needs of everyone and also contribute to the society’s well-being, national development and to meet global competencies.

The students are given exposure through project work, partaking in various programs like business plan, and different competition within the state.

RESULTS: -The Department has been blessed with 230 graduates students in 12 batch, and 31 ranks holders in the University Examination with 2 toppers and pass percentage over the years has been 100% in the University Examination. The Number of present batch of graduating students is 13.

 

DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES and ACHIEVEMENTS FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR (2019—2022)

1.    ENTREPRENEURSHIP  KNOWLEDGE CELL(EKC)

Entrepreneurship Knowledge Cell (EKC) is set up and promoted in educational institutions by the government of Mizoram.It is an effective mechanism to transform knowledge into innovation. Conducting various awareness programs such as  Seminars, workshop, Industrial visits, nurturing entrepreneurship skills ,food fest and interaction with young Entrepreneurs and mentoring  are  some of the activities by the EKC. The faculties of Commerce are actively involved in the EKC as co-coordinator and master trainer, on behalf of the cell Mr.R.Lalnunthara has completed master trainer course training at IIM Ahmadabad. 

 

The EKC HATIM in collaboration with IQAC HATIM and Mizoram University BioNEST successfully organized (for 6th semester students of HATIM) Workshop on Bio-Innovation challenge 2022 on 29thMarch, 2022 at 1:30pm-3:00pm venue at Auditorium, HATIM.

 

2.    PARENTS-TEACHERS MEET

The meeting was organized for better co-operation between parents of the students, faculty of the department and for the college... It was also organized to help the parents to realize their respective roles in promoting integrated education and seek parent’s co-operation and involvement in the integrated program as well as for the student’s improvement in different aspects.

 

The followings are the details of the Parents-Teachers Meet conducted by the department within this Academic session.

3.    DRIVES: 

As a part of the college tradition, the Department of Commerce was held responsible to take up Cleanliness Drive that lasted for almost a month. On 4th, October, 2019, the drive was kicked-off and ended on 25th October 2019. The main purpose and objective of the drive was to impart the knowledge of the importance of cleanliness to the community and check on the cleanliness of the classrooms and colleges campus. 5th semester students were assigned to regulate and supervise the working of the drive. Penalties were given to those caught littering inside the campus during the drive and the amount of money collected was utilized to purchase the prizes for the cleanliness competition. Student s also gave presentation to create awareness on Cleanliness and maintain the standard of “litter free campus”.

 

4.    SPECIAL LECTURE ON BUSINESS ECONOMICS:

The Commerce department believes that to improve students  achievement levels by enhancing the way curriculum is delivered by creating a positive  environment for learning ,as a part of this ,the department  organized a special lecture on Business  Economics on 1st November 2019,the lecture was delivered by Mr. Sangthuamluaia, Assistant Professor, Lunglei Government College .The lecture was attended by students of B.com  5th Semester and faculties of the department. The lecture was followed by Q and A session which was really useful for the students.

 

5.    PARTICIPATED AND WON IN THE DISTRICT INNOVATIVE CHALLENGE PROGRAMME—ON 18THAND 19TH FEBRUARY 2020:

Students from the Department Of Commerce participated in the District Innovative Challenge Program organized by Entrepreneurship Development Center, Mizoram at Lunglei Government College.

 

Lalrinhlua and Zarzoliani were selected as a part of the champion team. Lalvenpuia and Rohluzuali were also in the runner-up team Gospel Chanchinmawia and PC Lalnunhlima also participated in the team that won the third position. All students are from VI Semester.

 

6.    SEMINARS:

Today education means much more than merely acquiring knowledge, it is the acquisition of knowledge and skills, building character and improving employability of each talents. So, the Department always tries their best to give more opportunities among the students.

 

0n 12th march 2020, Regional Seminar was conducted on investor Education in Mizoram at Higher Technical Institute, Mizoram. NSDL in collaboration with the Department of Commerce on 12th March 2020. The expert from NSDL has delivered on Mutual Funds and guided the students about various career opportunities available in the securities markets and role of NSDL in capital building and training. All the sessions were interactive and attended by students from B.Com and BSW. The program was well received by the participants.

 

7.    WEBINARS:

The Department not only concentrates on the academic excellence of the students but also nurtures their co-curricular activities, and believes that empowering the students to cross the horizons of success is the prime aim of every teacher. For the benefits of the students, the Department conducted the following webinars:-

 

1)    A state level Webinar on “ Insurance : The most important but the least understood Financial Product”—On 1st October 2020

2)    Webinar on Banking: courses, job opportunities and career path—9th October 2021

By Ms.Tc.Vanlalhlupuii, probationary Officer, State Bank Of India.

 

3)    Webinar on gateway to Financial  Freedom  on 19th January 2022---The Department of Commerce in collaboration with Hedge  School of Economics, Kochi, Kerala 

 

All the webinar program were an insightful, practical and useful for the students and other attendees. An e-certificate was handed out to the attendees who had filled up the feedback form.

 

8.    ORIENTATION:

This program is organized by every year by the department, especially for the new students it is very important. The rules and regulations laid down in the institution, the examinations program and other necessary information were precisely delivered to the students.

 

The department conducted orientation in the month of July in 2019 at Kawmzawl campus and on 26th July 2021 through Google Meet.

 

9.    3-DAYS ONLINE WORKSHOP ON DIGITAL MARKETING (26th to 28th August, 2021):

An online Digital Marketing workshop was successfully organized by the Department  of Commerce and Department Of Computer Science, HATIM In collaboration with MakeSkill, Delhi, inclusively for the corresponding department students. The trainers (industry experts) taught students how they can quickly learn street smart skills to start an online business or career in it.

 

10. PROJECT WORK:

The Mizoram University has introduced ‘Project Work’ in the syllabus of 4th Semester B.com in entrepreneurship paper from the Academic year 2017 - 2018, this project work has been conducting under the guidance of the faculties. The students have opportunities to get acquainted with various micro-entrepreneurs in the town and villages and work on a range of research work. These projects allow students to develop their spirit of entrepreneurship as well as different entrepreneurial values and qualities such as self-confidence, perseverance, initiative, creativity a sense of responsibility and allowing them to participate actively in the decisions and tasks required to carry out all steps involved. 

 

11. FACULTY EXCHANGE PROGRAMME:

 

Faculty exchange program was organized by the department of commerce HATIM with JB College, Lunglei on 8 April 2022. The program was organized through Google meet platform at 7:30 pm and it was successful

2023-2024

 

The Department of Commerce has now been operational in the academic field for 16 years as of the academic year 2023-2024. Thanks to GOD’s grace.

The department is thrilled to announce that Dr. R. Lalnunthara, Vice Principal has recently finished his Ph.D in Commerce and has been granted a doctorate degree from Mizoram University. The department is also pleased to mention that Ms. Vanlalkimliani and Ms. C. Lalrinsangi are currently working towards their  Ph.D in commerce from Mizoram University.

DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES  AND ACHIEVEMENT:

1)     ORIENTATION:

The department conducted orientation sessions for the students at the beginning of the semester. This orientation is especially important for the recently enrolled students. Students were given various instructions and acquired valuable knowledge that could be beneficial for their academic pursuits. The orientation could be completed within the initial  2 days i.e. 10th  and 11th  July, 2023.

 

2)     INTERACTIVE SESSION:

On 21st July 2023, the department organised an interactive session with Mr. Michael Lalrinmawia, Under Secretary, MBSE. He delivered an informative speech about the different phases of public entry and competitive exams. Professional advice was given to the students in a forum where questions were asked and answered leading to their enlightenment.

 

3)     PARENT-TEACHER MEET: 

The department conducted a parent-teacher meeting on 17th October 2023 from 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM at the college auditorium. The attendance of the parents/guardians was 63.60 % out of the total number of students within the department. Parents/guardians had the opportunity to meet with their children's mentors (Teachers) to discuss their academic performances, strength areas for improvement and any specific concerns or questions they had.

 

4)     EDUCATIONAL TOUR:

During the 5th-7th December, 2023, the students of the 5th semester along with the faculties from the department went for an educational tour to Industrial Growth Centre, Luangmual Hmunulh Ram, Aizawl. The group along with the department faculty also visited the Vakiria site and received hands-on training on industrial processes and facility operations, acquiring valuable knowledge during the visit.

 

5)     ENTREPRENEURSHIP SKILLS DEVELOPMENT  PROGRAMME ON TOUR OPERATOR(Tourism Department):

The Programme was officially launched on October 3rd and 4th, 2023 at HATIM campus. The course was divided into 2 distinct groups. The students from 5th semester and some of the 3rd-semester students attended the programme. The course lasted for six weeks beginning on 3rd October and ending on 17th November 2023. This programme was held in collaboration with MSME-DFO (Aizawl Branch), Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India and Blueyes Foundation, Lunglei.

 

6)     MEET AN ENTREPRENEUR

The Department of Commerce in collaboration with the Entrepreneurship Knowledge Cell (EKC), HATIM organised ‘Meet the Founder’ programme on 23rd February, 2024 at HATIM Auditorium. Mr. Henry Sailo, founder of Food Myco Lab, was the resource person for the programme. The programme was an energetic event filled with surprising speeches, the faculties of Department of Commerce and students from commerce and social work departments attended the programme.

 

7)    Dr. R. Lalnunthara, Assistant Professor and Vice principal has recently finished his Ph.D in Commerce and has been awarded a doctorate degree on 1st April, 2024 from Mizoram University.

 

8)  During  24th-28th July, 2023, PMJVK inter college 2023 was organised by Mizo Zirlai Pawl and Mizoram  State Sports Council, Noel Vanlalzikpuii Pachuau and C. Lalchhanhimi from 5th  Semester B.Com represented the college in the event.

 

9)   On  23rd January, 2024, C. Lalchhanhima, Lydia Lalmuanawmi and Sarah Lalrohlui from 6th semester B.Com took part in the event as a representative of the college in the 14th National Voter’s Day Quiz Competition and won first prize in the competition.

 

10)  Thomas Lalfaka Pakhup from 6th semester B.Com participated and won the 2nd prize in the essay writing competition on the 14th National Voters Day essay writing competition.

 

11)  Students Wall Magazine has been maintained by the 3rd and 2nd year students since the academic year 2021-2022. It has been one of the remarkable activities that have been beneficial for enhancing knowledge.

 

       The add-on course paper “Research Methodology” in the 3rd Semester also proceed smoothly and was well received by the students.
