About the department
INTRODUCTION & OBJECTIVES:
The Department of Philosophy aims at providing quality in Logic, critical thinking, ethics and traditional approach to different theories of both Indian and Western Philosophy and also to practical philosophy across semesters within three years under the CBCS system of learning adopted by the Mizoram University.
Course and Learning Outcomes:
After completion of the B.A. (Philosophy) course a student will be well equipped with -
a) ability in critical thinkings and forming aguments thereby enhancing the student logical reasoning accumen. This helps immensely in appearing for various competitive examinations such as banking, civil services etc.
b) understanding of moral concepts and principles and apply them practically in their day to day life.
c) ability to read and comprehend philosophical texts and form argument, thereby enabling to think rationally about any philosophical idoelogies relevant to both theoretical and practical aspects of it.
The curriculum also helps in organising, recognising and expressing arguments which may be interdisciplinary in nature.
The department of philosophy was established along with the department of English in the year 2011, offering philosophy as an elective subject to BA-English Core under the temporary affiliation of Mizoram University. Having only two semesters every year, it started its classes with one Lecturer taking two classes every day. However, after 10 years, the department functions as a full-fledged department-offering core paper in 2020-2021 only with just one student opting for the core paper.

The name of the student as the first batch Philosophy core is Jennifer Laltlansangi scoring 8. 25SGPA and an 8.17 CGPA securing ‘Second Position’ in the University Top Ten Rank in Philosophy.

Departmental Activities.
Even though the department was newly empowered with core subjects in 2020, the department felt the need to instill in the students the importance of philosophical dialogue and pursuit in the form of seminars and or webinars to inspire and motivate them to think logically and rationally which is the essence of being a philosophy student. In view of this need, the department in collaboration with the Department of English held an Online Webinar Series for three days. The details of which is as under:
